About this Course
Commissioned by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) and the BMDV network of experts, this e-learning course was developed in close collaboration with Dr Brill + Partner GmbH – Institute for Antifouling and Biocorrosion. In five engaging chapters, the course provides clear and accessible information on the topics biofouling and antifouling for recreational boats. Each chapter consists of a short film and a follow-up questionnaire. The films last between 5 and 9 minutes, and each quiz contains 4 to 12 multiple-choice questions.
The total time required to complete the course is approximately 45 minutes.
The course is free of charge for all participants!

Course Objective:
In many in-depth conversations with recreational boat owners and during events such as the “Round Table Biofouling”, it became clear that while there is a great deal of uncertainty and a lack of knowledge in areas such as biofouling management, inwater cleaning, and the selection of suitable antifouling systems, there is also a strong interest and willingness to adopt a sustainable and environmentally responsible behaviour.
This e-learning course aims to help close these knowledge gaps and promote a sustainable and eco-friendly approach to biofouling managing.
Ideally, participants will pass on their knowledge as "antifouling representatives" in their clubs and marinas, offering guidance and support. In many cases, recreational boat owners can contribute to the protection of our waters through simple, practical measures.
Thank you for your commitment! 😊

The course is hosted on the HYGIENE COMPASS platform, a provider of international e-learning programs.
